Squad Tactics & Communication

Team composition, role assignments, and callout strategies for coordinated squads.

Optimal Squad Composition

A well-balanced 3-player squad in Arc Raiders operates most effectively with a clear role split: a Scout for recon and flanking, a Breacher or Heavy for assault and damage output, and a Support or Medic for sustain, revives, and resource management. This triangle formation lets the squad control space, apply pressure, and recover from setbacks without any single role being overwhelmed.

For dedicated ARC-heavy content like Dam Battlegrounds or Spaceport, swap the Scout for a second Support to handle the high damage output of armored enemies like Bastions and Bombardiers. The Sentinel class works well as an anchor for defensive setups, holding chokepoints while the assault classes push from angles.

Tips

  • +Coordinate loadouts before the raid: confirm who carries the primary damage dealers, who brings healing, and who handles utilities
  • +Avoid running duplicate roles in a squad unless intentionally (double Medic for hardcore survival runs)
  • +Assign a dedicated extraction leader who calls timing, not the strongest player
Triangle Positioning

The triangle formation is the foundation of coordinated squad play. The Forward player holds the primary engagement angle, pushing into chokepoints and doorways. The Flank player guards side and rear approaches using ziplines, stairs, and alternate routes. The Flex player supports whichever position needs help while watching secondary angles like bridges and elevated overlooks.

Never clump together. Stacked formations are the most vulnerable to grenades, automatic weapons fire, and multi-angle pressure. Spread out to maintain 360-degree awareness and force enemies to split their attention. If the triangle collapses into a ball, disengage and re-establish spacing immediately.

Tips

  • +Use ziplines to maintain flank coverage without crossing through dangerous interior zones
  • +Signal role swaps with short callouts like 'flipping forward' when the situation demands it
  • +Keep at least 15-20 meters between squad members during movement phases
Voice Callouts That Win Fights

Effective callouts follow a consistent format: Contact, Direction (in degrees or clock positions), Number of enemies, and Action. Example: 'Contact, 60 degrees, two players, pushing.' This gives every squad member immediate situational awareness without requiring explanation. In the heat of combat, brevity is essential.

Role-specific callouts accelerate response time. The Scout reports threat direction and distance. The Support calls healing and revive status. The Breacher announces grenade throws and push timing. ARC callouts for weak points are equally important: 'Rocketeer back' tells teammates to target the engine thrusters, 'Tick face' warns that a Jump Tick is about to charge.

Tips

  • +Use a 3-2-1 countdown before synchronized focus fire on high-value targets
  • +Announce extraction readiness with lead time: 'Site up, two minutes' gives the squad a clear window to finish looting
  • +Mark enemy weak points loudly: 'Bombardier back exposed' triggers immediate priority targeting
Coordinated Extraction Protocol

Extraction as a squad requires staged positioning. The Scout exits 30-60 seconds before the extraction point activates, scouting the exit approach for ambushers. The remaining squad members take elevated positions to cover all approach angles, deploying shields, mines, and barricades to create a defensible perimeter. Rotate extraction timing to arrive from non-obvious directions.

During extended raids with 40-minute timers, the extraction window is tight. Plan your exit route during the looting phase, not after. Identify your primary and secondary extraction points and have a fallback if the primary is contested. Never rush extraction -- the last 10 seconds of vulnerability are the most dangerous.

Tips

  • +Smoke grenades are critical for covering a squad extraction under fire
  • +The Support should be second-to-last through the door, positioned to revive anyone who goes down during exit
  • +If a squad member is still inside when extraction activates, the squad must decide: wait or go -- communicate this decision before the raid
Skill Trees for Coordinated Play

Coordinated squads benefit from investing skill points into the Conditioning and Mobility trees. 'Used to the Weight' reduces shield equip and swap speeds, letting the Heavy reposition faster between engagements. 'Marathon Runner' extends sprint duration for repositioning across large maps like Dam Battlegrounds. 'Fight or Flight' regenerates stamina when taking damage, keeping pushers active under fire.

'Looter's Instincts' in the Survival tree is underrated for squad play -- it reveals nearby containers on the minimap, letting the squad optimize looting routes in real time. The Medic tree's revival speed upgrades are essential if the squad frequently engages in dangerous territory where players go down.

Tips

  • +Coordinate skill builds before the raid so the squad covers multiple trees rather than stacking one category
  • +Friendly fire is disabled, so grenades can be thrown freely at enemy positions during pushes
  • +Debrief after difficult raids: identify which callouts worked and which positioning failed
