Cold Snap Update Brings Winter Conditions to Arc Raiders

New Snowfall map condition transforms the battlefield with reduced visibility and frost mechanics.

December 2025

The Cold Snap update has arrived in Arc Raiders, introducing a dramatic new weather system that fundamentally changes how players approach their raids. The Snowfall condition now randomly activates on multiple maps, blanketing the battlefield in heavy snow that reduces visibility and introduces frost damage for players who remain exposed too long.

Visibility during a Cold Snap drops significantly, with the effective sight range reduced to roughly 40 meters compared to the standard 80-meter visibility in clear conditions. This forces raiders to rely more heavily on audio cues and motion trackers while navigating contested zones. The snow also creates a layer of ground frost that slightly reduces movement speed when crossing open areas.

The frost mechanic adds a survival element previously absent from the game. Players who spend more than 15 consecutive seconds in open snow begin accumulating frost buildup, visualized by a meter near the stamina bar. Once fully loaded, frost deals incremental health damage and impairs weapon handling accuracy. Staying near heat sources such as broken vehicles, burning debris, or indoor areas clears the frost meter over several seconds.

Tactical planning shifts considerably when a Cold Snap activates. Ambush strategies become more effective due to reduced sight lines, giving the advantage to defenders holding chokepoints. Conversely, aggressive pushers can exploit the reduced visibility to close distance unnoticed. Teams coordinating extraction points must now factor in proximity to warm zones and plan routes that minimize open snow exposure.

Enemy behavior during Cold Snaps has also received attention in this update. The mechanical Arcs seem unaffected by the cold and gain a subtle mobility boost in snowy conditions. New audio design makes approaching Arc patrols easier to hear against the ambient snowfall, creating a near-white noise effect that masks footsteps but amplifies mechanical whirring and grinding.

The Cold Snap condition rotates on a dynamic timer, typically lasting between 8 and 15 minutes before clearing. Some high-tier zones now have increased likelihood of triggering Cold Snaps, adding risk-reward calculus to resource runs in remote sectors. Players should monitor weather forecasts in the mission briefing screen, where Cold Snap probability is now displayed as a percentage alongside enemy density ratings.

Player Tips

  • +Always carry a thermal coating or insulated armor mod when running remote extraction missions -- these reduce frost accumulation rate by up to 40% and can be crafted from salvage at workbenches.
  • +Plan your routes to include warm zones as waypoints. Indoor areas, burning vehicles, and active heating systems all reset your frost meter. Do not try to sprint through open snow in a Cold Snap without a plan.
  • +Use sound to your advantage during reduced visibility. Mechanical enemy audio is amplified against snowfall, so headphones with good spatial audio help you detect threats before they appear on your screen.
